Edric Ong is President of Society Atelier Sarawak in Malaysia, President of AHPADA (the ASEAN Handicraft Promotion and Development Association) and Advisor and Past Senior Vice President of the World Crafts Council – Asia Pacific Region (WCC-APR). An architect by training, his interest in the heritage of his country inspired him to write several books such as Sarawak Style, Pua Kumbu – Iban Textiles and Woven Dreams – Ikat Textiles of Sarawak. He is a noted speaker at international conferences and established the World Eco-Fiber and Textile (WEFT) Network to further the cause of natural fibers and dyes.
He is a multi-awarded designer of natural dye textiles, fashion and crafts. These awards include the ‘MERCEDES BENZ/STYLO Asian Fashion Award 2016 – Global Fashion Influencer’ and ‘Malaysian Designer of the Year 2009′. He has also received the World Crafts Council Award of Excellence; Seals of Excellence from UNESCO-AHPADA and the Japanese G-Mark Award for his designs in arts and crafts. He has curated many exhibitions in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Korea, Australia, Japan, India, France, Sweden, United Kingdom and USA. He is on the Panel of Experts for UNESCO and is a jury member for the WCC-APR Award of Excellence for Handicrafts.
